If you’d have been writing a preview of a cup final between these two teams a year ago, Tom Payne and Rikki Shepherd would have been Millbrook’s key players.
Twelve months on, Payne and Shepherd will be facing their old club as vital cogs in the Helston line-up.
Payne told the Voice: “It was always going to be Millbrook in the final wasn’t it! I am really looking forward to Easter Monday, it’s going to be a great occasion.
“Winning the Cornwall Senior Cup is a huge achievement for any player playing in Cornwall. Obviously there is that added bit of emotion for Rik and myself up against our old club, where we have some special memories and also some really close friends.
“But we need to put that to one side and concentrate on what we can control and try to do the business.”
Shepherd told the Voice: “Isn’t it funny how football goes sometimes. Having been at Millbrook for so long and narrowly missing out on a few occasions, here I am at my first attempt with a different club facing my old club.
“It’s obviously a game I’m very much looking forward to, there’s going to be that extra spotlight on me and Tom.
“I’ve a huge amount of respect for the lads and for Macca of course. I enjoyed six great years at the club. I keep a close eye on how they’re doing because we’re all good mates and I still want them and the club to do well.
“However, come Monday that will be put to one side as winning the Senior Cup would be a special achievement for me.”
