NEWQUAY’S main competitions of the year were held over the second and third Saturday of the month with prizes for the men and women up for the grabs.
Tom Eggins and Aaron Stephens were the respective ‘Net’ and ‘Gross’ winners with par for a round being 69, while a 73 was par in the ladies’ competition.
Michelle Burgess took the Division One crown with Lorna Parfitt the second division and Annie Lobb the ‘Scratch’.

LADIES SECTION
THE ladies teed up to play either the Ping Fourball Better Ball competition on Tuesday, July 22, with the winners going forward to represent the club in the next stage or a nine-hole Stableford.
The winners of the event were Joyce Cain and Michelle Burgess with 47 points. Annie Lobb and Lesley Pocklington were second with 40, on countback from Susan Waters and Sandra Lloyd.
The nine-hole stableford was won by Anne Poole with 17 points, just one ahead of Bridie Jones in second.
Past captains gathered for their competitions two days later, either an 18 or a nine-hole Stableford. The day was brilliantly organised by immediate past captain, Sue Phillips.
The winner of the 18-hole competition was Sandra Lloyd with 37 points. Liz Bird was second with 34 (now a member of Royal North Devon Golf Club) and Debbie Cain was third with 33.
Meg Platton took the honours in the nine-hole with 20 points, three ahead of Joyce Cain (17) and Di Luxon was third with 14 on countback from Jo Toms.
A club spokesperson added: “Afterwards, the ladies were treated to a cream tea.
“It was also nice to see so many past captains who for one reason or another cannot play golf now, but everyone enjoyed the social occasion whether playing or not.”

Mixed Team Greensomes with Ladies partnering and Men partnering – Sunday, July 27
Results: 1 Terry and Mary Daniels, Peter Groocock and Chris Brown – 87pts; 2 Andy Peers, Sue Pascoe and Kevin and Trudy Metherell – 82.
