LADIES SECTION

TUESDAY, June 17 saw the ladies play the Coronation Foursomes and a nine-hole stableford.

The winners of the Foursomes were Susan Hodge and Sarah Start with 38 points, one ahead of runners-up Janet Cox and Lorna Parfitt who were three ahead of third-placed Eileen Avery and Eileen Phipps.

The nine-hole competition saw Gail Hicks take victory with 17 points. Pauline O'Shea was second with 16, one ahead of Bridie Jones in third.

The following Tuesday was Lady President's Day organised by Lady President, Sandra Lloyd.

Both the 18 and nine-hole competitions were individual Stablefords with the overall winner of the competitions being Sue Sykes with 41 points.

In the 18-hole competition, Debbie Cain won Group One with 41 points, while Sally Stacey was second with 38. In Group Two, Kathy Adams took the honours also with 41 points and Pat Thom was second with 38 on countback from Gail Hicks.

The nine-hole competition was won by Meg Platton with 19 points, three ahead of Judith Reseigh.

The ladies were treated to refreshments after the 11th hole, served by Lady President, assisted by her son. A cream tea followed in the clubhouse afterwards.

Winning ladies received prizes of plants and wooden boxes skilfully decorated by Sandra. Following the presentation, the Lady President was presented with a bouquet of peonies by Lady Captain, Anne Poole, and was thanked for organising the day.

On Friday, June 20, Newquay Ladies headed to Looe for a league match which they lost 5.5 to 1.5. They were up against tough opponents on their own course in very hot weather.

The result was even tougher the following Friday as they were beaten 7-0 at West Cornwall in windy conditions.

The senior ladies signed up for a Texas Scramble in teams of three on Thursday, June 26 with everyone thoroughly enjoyed the format.

The winners were Carol Sparrow, Eileen Phipps and Jo Toms with a nett 30 on count-back from Sue Sykes, Anne Poole and Judith Reseigh also with nett 30.

Joyce Cain, Chris Cummins and Di Truscott were third with a nett 31.
