We’ll start climbing the table soon insists Dobwalls boss

MANAGER Kev McCann is convinced his Dobwalls side will start to pick up points now that they are through a very tough run of fixtures at the start of the season.

He expressed his thoughts after Penzance left Lantoom Park on Saturday with all three points following a dominant display.

Josh Turner scored twice in the 28th and 37th minutes – with a Alex Oshinyemi goal sandwiched between them – before Lewis Caspall’s 50th minute back-heel made sure of a Penzance win.

McCann said: “Overall I’m happy with our reaction to a poor first half and we can hopefully push on from here.

“Once again this season we have had the hardest start possible – having to play all four sides tipped to be in the title race in our first six games so we’re nearly through that and gelling as a squad so I’m confident we’ll climb the table soon.”

“Penzance are the best footballing side in this league and play with high intensity that we simply couldn’t match for the first 20 minutes so we were lucky they only scored one in that time.

“After they scored we actually started to believe more in ourselves and scored a good equaliser but couldn’t keep that going and got caught for their second before the break.

“I told my lads at half-time we needed to be much more aggressive. We came out much better second half and made it much more of a contest and in my opinion were a bit unlucky to concede the third when we did.

“Then an absolutely disgraceful bit of refereeing for their penalty – the ref much nearer to the incident, seeing it up close awarding correctly for a goal kick only for the linesman who was twice the distance away to say he thought he saw a push – which no one else saw including the ref.

“But he took the easy way out to change his mind and not take responsibility for the decision, really poor refereeing but luckily justice prevailed with a great save from Freddy.

“We then had some very good spells and created quite a few chances ourselves but couldn’t get back into it.”

Penzance dominated the opening stages. Caspall was doubly unlucky crashing a powerful drive against the bar and seeing a low drive repelled by a post inside the first four minutes.

Andreas Calleja-Stayne had a shot well saved before Turner made the breakthrough just before the half hour mark. Out-muscling home captain Ryan Winfield to wrest control of a lofted pass, the striker turned skilfully to tuck a low shot just inside Freddie Harvey-Larmar’s far post.

Dobwalls hit back immediately, a move down the left presenting Oshinyemi with a far post opportunity that he finished with aplomb.

But then the Penzance onslaught resumed. George Molcher rattled the woodwork with a fierce shot before Turner notched his second goal with another tidy finish.

A cheeky back-heel by Caspall, after a tidy link-up on the left between Molcher and Silas Sullivan-Bailey, put the Magpies 3-1 up early in the second half.

When Charlie Willis was tripped in the box, Turner had an opportunity to extend the lead and complete a hat-trick in the 57th minute.

He picked out the bottom left-hand corner with a clean strike, but Harvey-Larmar pulled off a superb save, ensuring there was no further addition to the tally.
