THE final four matches of the season in the South West Peninsula League took place over the weekend with Callington Town ensuring third ahead of Penzance.

Cally went into Friday night’s home clash with champions Liskeard Athletic knowing that if they lost by four goals then Penzance would take third – a position they looked like securing for much of the campaign.

However, the hosts put on a superb performance in the first half, pinning the Blues in for long spells and eventually taking a 43rd minute lead through Kieran Prescott.

The roles were then reversed after the break as Liskeard went on the offensive, and they eventually got their reward in the 89th minute as skipper Josh McCabe made no mistake from close-range.

Both sides were happy at full-time as Liskeard were presented the trophy in front of a crowd of more than 300.

Runners-up Elburton Villa rounded off a campaign which saw them score more than 100 goals as they demolished mid-table Wendron United 9-0 away from home.

The Plymothians led 3-0 at the break before going crazy after the restart.

The scorers were Adam MacPherson, Calum Merrin, Charlie Patrick, Lewie Rendle, Steve Colwell, Blake Colton and his dad Lee, plus Ollie Newton.

Sticker’s superb finish saw them notch a sixth straight success at second bottom Launceston.

Veteran centre-half Olly Brokenshire nodded in a first half corner, but within three minutes of the restart were pegged by Lee Robinson.

But further goals from Sol Wilson and Tom Guest ensured the villagers – who could be a surprise package next term – went out on a high.

St Day’s season ended with a 3-0 reversal at Millbrook who secured 10th.

The Brook, who saw Toby Burt named man-of-the-match for his defensive efforts, netted via Josh Babb and a brace from Jayden Preece.
