SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST ROUND-UP

PENZANCE took advantage of AFC St Austell’s day off to go top of the table with a 5-1 success over Bude Town at Penlee Park.

The Magpies had to wait until late in the first half to go in front through Ewan Trevains’ screamer, and they doubled the lead before the break through Jacob Trudgeon.

Billy Hopcroft pulled one back early in the second half, but three goals in the final 11 minutes from Hayden Waters, Charlie Willis and Jahmali Prowse rounded off a fine afternoon which saw them move two points clear with a game in-hand.

Sticker kept up their end of the bargain to go third, five adrift of top spot, with a 6-1 success at strugglers Dobwalls who missed a host of chances themselves.

Cam Bidgood and Harvey Hann had Dan Nancarrow’s men 2-0 up inside three minutes before Sol Wilson’s third gave them a healthy cushion.

Elian Causon pulled one back just after the hour, but Sticker continued their momentum, adding more through Tom Guest, Chris Kilbey and Evan Tresidder.

Elsewhere in the division, Wendron United remain at the foot of the standings following a 2-0 reversal at home to Camelford, while Mousehole dropped to third bottom after a 2-1 defeat at Millbrook who won it in injury-time through Will Larsen.

St Mawgan, who switch their new floodlights on at Trevarrian Park this Friday night when they welcome Wadebridge Town, earned a sixth win from 14 starts at improving Launceston thanks to Craig Allen’s brace, while the Bridgers picked up a useful point in Devon at Holsworthy despite Rory Simmons’ leveller.

Wadebridge led 2-1 at the break thanks to goals from Joe Munday and Jack Clarke.

Friday night’s action saw Helston Athletic edge past Falmouth Town Reserves 3-2 courtesy of Ketan Cooper’s 76th minute winner.
