WESTERN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

Newquay 2 Brixham 0

GOALS either side of the half-time break from Tom Moxham and Louis Price proved to be enough for Newquay as they eased to victory over Brixham at Mount Wise on Wednesday evening.

Moxham broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute with his first goal of the season as he fired in after a ball broke to him in the box from a free-kick, and Price doubled the lead three minutes into the second half following a superb break down the right by winger Allam Ahmed.

It was a great response from Newquay only four days after losing 4-1 to Sturminster Newton in the FA Vase.

The result keeps the Peppermints on the edge of the play-off zone, a point behind sixth-placed Tavistock with a game in-hand.

Manager Shaun Middleton said: “It was a good performance last night – compared to Saturday it was chalk and cheese. I made four changes and we looked fresher all over the park, and it was another clean sheet in the league, which is pleasing.

“We still have five games to go in two and a half weeks, so plenty of football to be played between now and then and then the lads can have a little bit of a breather. The boys have been pushed to the maximum over the last six or seven weeks and I take my hat off to them especially as they’re working full-time as well. But all focus now is on Shepton Mallet on Saturday where we look to go and hopefully get another free three points and a positive result.”
