NEWQUAY will look to continue their good run of form tomorrow when they visit Hellenic League Premier Division side Hallen in the first round of the FA Vase.
The Armadillos, who are based just outside of Bristol – like the Peppermints – won their division last year – the Western League Division One, but have found the going much tougher at Step Five.
They have just one win to their name in the league from 12 starts, but are much-improved in recent weeks having secured five points from their last three games as well as thrashing Milton United 8-1 in the Second Qualifying Round of the Vase.
Newquay have lost just one of their last six league matches to move up to mid-table in the Western League Premier Division, and boss Shaun Middleton is determined to keep the momentum going.
He said: “We’ve been preparing for it like any normal Saturday game, although we didn’t train on Tuesday due to a few knocks and people being away.
“I don’t know too much about Hallen to be honest, but we go into it in a really good run of form and I’m confident we can get through.”
Newquay will start as firm favourites despite the near three-hour journey each way, but Middleton is full of respect.
He said: “They had a really good season last year, so they won’t have become a bad team overnight.
“Every game at Step Five so far this season has been hard, so I’m not expecting anything less on Saturday.
“But I want to win every game we play whether that’s the league, League Cup, Senior Cup or the Vase, so we won’t be making changes for the sake of it.
“We have three or four missing due to injuries and holidays, but we’ve got a really strong squad.
“It’ll be another exciting day for everybody involved with the club and hopefully we can get through.”
