FALMOUTH Town moved five points clear of the relegation zone in Southern League Division One South on Saturday after producing a devastating four-minute salvo at Bashley.

Andy Westgarth’s men made the trip knowing victory would see them move five ahead of their opponents, but at 1-0 down thanks to Kyran Samadi’s 15th minute opener, looked like they may head back back to Cornwall with nothing to show for their efforts.

Chances came and went in the second half, but once Oscar Massey levelled on 76 minutes, Rubin Wilson completed the turnaround inside 60 seconds.

Midfielder Cam Hutchison then added a third three minutes later.

Mousehole had a frustrating week.

The mid-table Seagulls, who saw their midweek trip to Willand Rovers called off not long before kick-off in East Devon, welcomed promotion-chasing Malvern Town on Saturday.

The Worcestershire outfit went in front on 20 minutes through Piers Walton, and when Yuri Jesus Da Gloria Quintas doubled the lead shortly after half-time, the hosts were in trouble.

Alex Cairo pulled one back just after the hour (65), but try as they might to force a leveller which would have seen them move up to 11th, Town held on to move up to third.

In the Western League Premier Division, St Austell’s new management team of Stu Mitchinson and Rob Astin were left in no uncertain terms of the task facing them in the coming weeks and months as the Lillywhites were thrashed 11-0 at Paulton Rovers.

The Cornishmen headed to Somerset without a point to their name, and once they conceded the opener inside 11 minutes to Kyle Witt, conceded six more before the break including a further three to Witt.

The Saints stopped the rot somewhat in the second half, but a long second half of the season awaits.

Newquay, St Blazey and Helston Athletic all had the afternoon off.
