South West Peninsula League Premier West preview – Saturday, October 10
WITH Camelford in FA Vase action, 14 of the 17 teams in the division are in action tomorrow as they look for vital league points.
Despite being seven points off top spot, Penzance cut the gap down to previously unbeaten leaders St Austell with four games in-hand courtesy of a 1-0 success at Poltair on Wednesday night which came via George Molcher’s late strike.
The Magpies sit on 26 points from 10 outings, two ahead of fourth-placed Callington Town who have played a game less ahead of tomorrow’s meeting at the Ginsters Marsh.
If one of the sides picks up three points tomorrow afternoon then they take the early advantage in the title race.
While St Austell, Penzance and Callington were widely expected to at the top end, Sticker have quietly put together a solid squad which look a good bet for a top six finish, currently sitting third.
They are right in the mix with eight wins and two defeats from their 10 matches, and will look to bounce back from last Saturday’s 1-0 reversal to Penzance when they head to in-form St Mawgan who have found their shooting boots to fly up to 10th in the table off the back of three wins in four.
With fifth-placed Camelford taking a break from league action, Holsworthy will leapfrog the Camels if they beat Helston Athletic at Upcott Field, while Falmouth Town Reserves could go ahead of the Magpies if they see off managerless Launceston at Bickland Park. The third bottom Clarets were thrashed 6-2 by bottom side Dobwalls on Tuesday night, a result which saw Simon Minett resign.
Just four points separate the bottom five following the Dingos’ success at Pennygillam and four of the clubs meet tomorrow.

Kevin McCann’s Dobwalls head to Mousehole who are looking to build on their 4-1 victory over Launceston last weekend.
However, the East Cornwall outfit know victory at Trungle Parc will move them to within a point of the fifth bottom Seagulls. Not too far away at Wendron, Bryan Scoffin’s villagers are at home to Millbrook who picked up a useful point at Wadebridge Town on Tuesday night courtesy of Will Larsen’s strike in a 1-1 draw.
The other clash is at Hayle as the promoted Greens – sitting nicely in 10th – host eighth-placed Bude Town who are looking to bounce back from successive defeats to Falmouth and Callington.
Fixtures (3pm): Callington Town v Penzance, Falmouth Town Reserves v Launceston, Hayle v Bude Town, Holsworthy v Helston Athletic, Mousehole v Dobwalls, St Mawgan v Sticker, Wendron United v Millbrook.
