WESTERN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

Nailsea & Tickenham 0 St Blazey 2

ST BLAZEY returned from a gruelling trip to Bristol with their first league win of the season – and ended a 16-month wait for success on the road.

Substitute Zephan Grigg broke the deadlock in the 71st minute and Tom Hensman, another player to come off the bench, made sure of victory in the last minute.

It was Blazey’s first away league win since April 24, 2024 when they won 2-0 at Millbrook. The last time they won in the league outside of Cornwall was at Clevedon on January 6 2024.

Manager Mark Carter said: “It’s a real relief to finally pick up three points on the road – our first away win since the 2023-24 season back in the April.

“It’s been a long time coming, and great to get that particular monkey off our backs.”

Carter went on: “After a tough journey up, we appreciated Nailsea’s sportsmanship in agreeing to delay kick-off slightly to accommodate us.

“We started the game in control and maintained dominance throughout, though the poor surface meant it was never going to be a showcase of quality football.

“That said, we were solid and composed and stayed patient and eventually got the breakthrough our performance deserved.”

Blazey had more options at the weekend, with Carter saying: “Unlike last week, we had players returning to the squad, giving us more depth and options from the bench.

“Rotating the front three injected fresh energy in the final 20 minutes – with Zephan Grigg absolutely outstanding after coming on, grabbing the important goal that put us in front.”

ST BLAZEY: Kyle Moore, Sam Clifton, Tom Strike, Charlie Hambly (capt), Tom Cavanagh, Jordan Bentley, Aaron Bentley, Rio Daly (Zephan Grigg 62), Charlie Menear (Ryan Oxley, 57), Tyler Elliott, Noah Maund (Tom Hensman, 75).
