Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League County Division One round-up – Saturday, July 19
LEADERS Beacon are two points clear of neighbours Camborne after both sides secured easy victories at the weekend.
Beacon headed to St Austell Seconds and saw skipper Ben James bang 147 from just 130 balls (19 fours, four sixes) as they were dismissed for 306.
The villagers were in a spot of bother at 51-3, but James found support from Stephen Wiseman (44) and Joe Tunnicliffe (26) before Chris Terrill (20) had some late fun.
Jack Carter took 2-37 while James Carter (3-46) and Tom Rosevear (3-53) got some reward.
The reply lasted just 22.4 overs as the Saints were dismissed for just 59.
Jordan Thomas (2-29) and Gareth Mankee (2-21) did the early damage before James (3-7) and Darren Proctor (2-2) continued the onslaught.
Sri Lankan Danuka Dilshan took 5-15 from 8.2 overs as Camborne won by seven wickets at Newquay.
The hosts were dismissed for just 85, a score which would have been a lot worse for a battling 22 at the end from Dan Ogen. Earlier, Joe Crane made 21, while Dan Hocking (2-38 off 7) and Dan Stephens (2-9 off 10) shared four wickets.
Camborne did drop a point as they reached their target three down.
With rain forecast, Aussie Josh Fontana struck 22 from 10 balls before bits and pieces from the rest got them there in just 14.5 overs. Stephens was 28 not out while Toby Chillingworth took 2-34.
St Erme are 17 points from safety following a five-wicket defeat to Falmouth who continue their roll towards mid-table.
After a remarkable start which saw the villagers slip to 7-4 and 25-7 thanks to the brilliance of Haydn Ayres (4-21) and Isaac Hurtel-Hymans (2-27), St Erme dug in somewhat as Samuel Townsend (31) and Tom Bunt (18) added 50 before Alfie Tangye (10) and Henry Hocking (11) helped.
Callum Stephens’ 10 overs cost just 14, while Adrian Noott took 2-5 from his five overs.
Ayres (20) and Noott (22) took Falmouth to 44-1 before Hurtel-Hymans’ unbeaten 28 got them over the line. West Indian spinner Rakesh Seecharan took 2-26.
The luck is out for Paul at the moment as the rain denied them when well-placed at home to high-flying Hayle.
Hayle were without key men Tom Sharp and Dan Lello and were dismissed for just 92 in 28.4 overs with Michael Fitchett, Damon Nicholls, Harry Friggens and Matt Skewes sharing all 10.
But despite the hosts reaching 45-1 after nine overs, the weather set in.
They are within 10 points off Roche who were beaten by fourth-placed Perranporth at Trezaise Road.
Perranporth raced to 74-2 in the 10th over before Archie Green (3-35) dismissed Cameron Bishop for 28.
Kiwi Tom Bradburn made 64 and with number eight James Hall making 35, they reached 182 all-out.
Bradburn struck twice as Roche fell to 18-3, but Jason Williams (26), Liam Philips (40) and James Hunkin (23) took the score to 139-4.
Philips and Hunkin fell with no more runs added, allowing Evans (4-27) and Tyler Murrell (3-32) to spin the Clay Country outfit to defeat.
