BRADLEY’S VINTER CUP SECOND-ROUND ROUND-UP

HOLDERS Penzance are through to the last eight of the Vinter Cup after a 20-run victory at Camborne on Wednesday night.

The visitors racked up 177-3 from their 20 overs with opener Christian Purchase making 87 not out, helped by a third wicket partnership of 113 with Charlie Sharland (57).

Camborne fell to 20-2 after five overs thanks to Giles Lawrence (2-33), but Liam Weeks’ unbeaten 57 got them to within 20.

Danuka Dilshan and Jamie Goldsworthy gave the innings some momentum although seamers Tom Dinnis (2-21) and Josh Croom (2-23) proved difficult to get away.

Fellow Premier Division side Helston also advanced after a five-wicket victory at neighbours Mullion.

The Seagulls were restricted to just 112-7 from their 20 overs, James Dark made 40.

Helston lost wickets throughout but Steve Jenkin (24), Mark Jenkin (30) and Gavin Tregenza (31) got them over the line. Earlier, Ryan Tonkin took 2-18.

Top-flight sides St Just, Redruth and Truro also progressed during the week.

St Just visited old rivals Paul on Monday and at 73-6 looked in big trouble with Damon Nicholls (2-14) and Kameron Collins (2-18) bowling miserly four-over spells.

However, Jamie Semmens (33no off 23) and skipper Gareth May (30 off 21) got them up to 141-7.

Seamers Ellis May (2-11) Ben Stevens (2-15) took out the early order before Chamikara Edirisinghe (3-11) and Philip Nicholas (3-8) span out the rest as the home side were dismissed for just 63.

Redruth and Truro both recorded emphatic victories over lower-league opposition on Tuesday.

The Reds racked up 212-2 at home to Falmouth. Lloyd Brock led the way with 82 from just 37 balls, which included 14 fours and two sixes, in an opening partnership of 109 with Toby Stoddard (67no).

Elliott Stoddard (27) and Sri Lankan Dulash Udayanga (19no) continued the momentum although Caiden Howell (1-16 off 3) bowled tidily towards the end.

Falmouth ended on 120-6 in reply with Adrian Noott and the unbeaten Ben Coston both making 34. Udayanga then took 3-15 from his four overs.

Truro restricted Camborne Seconds to just 56-9 at Boscawen Park before going on to win by eight wickets.

Freddie Bose (3-7) and Ted Phillips (3-10) shared six wickets as Camborne’s innings never found any momentum. Scott Kellow blasted 32 off just 11 deliveries in the reply.

Beacon edged past County Division One rivals Perranporth by three wickets with five balls to spare on Wednesday.

After choosing to bat, the Pilchards were in big trouble at 58-4 in the eighth over, but a rapid 84-run stand between Josh Anderson (57) and Louis Rudin (24) added to by James Hall’s 19 off 10 got them up to 178-8.

Beacon got off to a flyer through Ben James (46) and Stephen Wiseman before Sam James’ unbeaten 50 (31 balls) got them home. Bryn Evans took 3-28 to add to his 28.

County Division One outfits St Erme and Hayle also made it through.

Kyle Van Rooyen hammered 136 not out from just 67 balls (12 fours, nine sixes) as St Erme racked up 238-4 at Constantine before going on to win by 105 runs.

Charlie Campbell struck 86 in reply as the hosts ended on 133-6.

Hayle dismissed Penzance Seconds for just 43 with Kiwi Nate Wiggins taking 5-11, before going on to win by nine wickets.
