NEWQUAY Cricket Club are hosting a three-way 10-10 bash competition at 6pm tomorrow (Friday) between Newquay CC and Newquay Hornets RFC, raising money for Cornwall Hospice Care in memory of former player and committee member Nigel Dawes.
All are welcome to support the event.
The All Stars and Dynamos programmes will also be continuing tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Newquay Firsts made it three wins out of three in the Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League County Division One last weekend with victory at Bodmin-based Lanhydrock, keeping the home side rooted to the bottom of the table, writes Sam Millatt.
Lanhydrock batted first and made 171 all out. Ryan Peter-Budge and Jack Howarth were again superb with the ball, taking three wickets each. Rob Burton again chipped in, taking 2-18, giving him five wickets in two games.
Despite a scare in the reply being 14-2, Newquay coasted home by six wickets. Peter-Budge completed a good game, showing his class with 77 not out, while Howarth finished with an unbeaten 25.
This weekend, Newquay have a home double header against Falmouth and Lanhydrock, looking to break into the top five.
In Division Three East, on a blustery Newquay day, a much-changed Newquay Seconds took on Launceston, with stand-in skipper Ed Mosley having no hesitation in batting first, writes Joe Burton.
Newquay's openers Nico Christian and Tom Jayne started steadily, reaching 20 without loss, but wickets started to fall.
Chris Jordan came in and accumulated in solid fashion and the young quartet of Alfie Bishop, Evan Sefton and Harry Willmott all batted solidly but young Boyd Mallinder showed great patience in holding an end while skipper Mosley hammered his way to a crucial 36.
Newquay were all out for 141 after being 89-7. It was a creditable effort and gave them something to bowl at.
The Launceston innings got off to the perfect start for Newquay as Willmott, with new ball in hand, created the chance with Mallinder taking an excellent catch.
Willmott continued to strike with Bishop bowling tightly from the other end, leaving Launceston 25-3, Joe Burton then chipped in with two wickets, keeping the pressure on and reducing them to 53-5, but a partnership was formed and Willmott was recalled and delivered, picking up two more wickets to complete an incredible 5-10 off his nine overs.
Mosley completed his fine all-round game with two wickets and Jayne took the final wicket as Launceston were all out for 94 to complete a very good 47-run win for Newquay.
Newquay recovered and put on regular partnerships, anchored around a gritty 58 not out from skipper Tom Backway.
As ever, some useful cameos down the order helped Newquay reach a good score, with Sam Millatt making an unbeaten 30, Obi Shams a brutal 28, and young Nani Tahir showing some sense and restraint in his 23.
Gunnislake were never in the chase, and the margin could have been greater in the end, as they finished on 142-8. Nani Tahir took 2-30 off 10 overs and the exceptional Naz Ismail took 2-14 off 10, offering very little to the batsmen.
