Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League County Division One round-up – Saturday, May 30
HAYLE extended their lead at the top of the table with an emphatic 131-run success over visiting Luckett on Saturday.
Although the visitors took wickets throughout, led by three apiece from the excellent Andrew Hoskin (3-23) and George Wilkinson (3-53), Dan Lello’s 90 plus bits and bobs from the lower order saw them rack up 246-9.
Luckett were soon in early trouble against Matt Lello and James Franklin, and needed 39 from wicketkeeper Henry Wilkinson to get as far as 115 all out. Luke Brenton made 24 at the top, before leg-spinner Max Jenkin ran through the middle and lower order.
Paul ground out a home success over Newquay who nearly snatched a fine win at Hutchens Park.
Spinners Joe Crane and Tom Owen were the main protagonists as the hosts slipped to 122-7 despite Andrew Snell’s 40.
However, Ben Brooks (26), Damon Nicholls (23), Neil Pengelly (12no) and Harry Friggens (11no) ground their way up to 197-9.
Newquay were 165-5 in reply with Adam Jenkin (61) and Jack Howarth (35) going well.
Needing 32 from just 43 balls, Howarth and Gangul Ravina went in the space of three balls to spinner Keiran Bowden (5-31), and when Jenkin went in Bowden’s next over it was all but game over as they finished on 186-9. Earlier, Harry Friggens (3-44) had taken out Newquay’s top-order.
Perranporth are just a point behind in third after a high-scoring victory at Stithians.
It was in the balance at 138-5 in the Peeranporth innings despite thirties from Theo Gayton (38) and Harry Watkins (35), but Rhys Evans’ 43 and a rapid 32 from Tyler Murrell accelerated the score to 256-8. Ryan Mitchell was the pick with 2-19 from his seven, while Matthew Ellis claimed 3-60.
The reply followed a similar pattern as although Ellis (22) and Simon Danby (40) got in, wickets fell regularly to leave them 135-6.
Callum Martin (35), Perran Burley (30) and Ryan Mitchell (21) had other ideas and kept the scoreboard moving, but the hosts were all out with seven balls remaining.
Jake Brothers was the pick with 3-38 while Freddie Wheeler (2-42) and Louis Rudin (2-51) both struck twice.
Truro got back on track as Pakistani professional Raja Hamza Waheed inspired a 103-run success at Roche.
The right-hander shared a 173-run stand for the third wicket with Ted Phillips who made 60, but Waheed’s 130 contained 18 fours and five sixes in a hefty total of 304-9. The Green brothers – Archie (3-33) and Oscar (3-53) – shared six wickets.
Roche got off to a steady start, but found it tough to score for much of the day, eventually finishing 201 all out as left-arm spinner Neil Ivamy claimed 4-43 to go alongside Freddie Bose’s 2-28.
Nobody made more than opener Oscar Green’s 38.
Spinner Ben James’ 3-28 and two wickets for Ryan Clark (2-24) inspired Beacon to a five-wicket success over visiting Falmouth.
The visitors were going well at 68-2 with Adrian Noott (26) and James Tomlinson (40) set, but the departure of Noott saw the home side run riot.
Needing just 128 to win, openers Ben and Sam James put on 51, the former making 42, and although Isaac Hurtel-Hymans was impressive for his 3-23, Jordan Thomas’ unbeaten 37 guided the village side home.
