MENHENIOT-Looe gave themselves a bit of breathing space over Holsworthy at the lower end of Division Two East as they won by 75 runs at relegated Bude.

Put into bat by their hosts at Crooklets, the East Cornwall outfit made hay in the sunshine, posting a total of 332 for five. This included 105 from Lachie Embleton, plus creditable knocks from Mike Maiden (69), Luke Ripley (47) and skipper Steve Kidd (42).

Matt Williams (2-63) was the best of the Bude bowling – and he then top scored with 70 before being trapped in front by Hugh Rogers.

Skipper Warren Rumble weighed in with 54 and Andrew De Rosa hit 60, but it was all in vain as they lost by 75 runs. Embelton capped a fine game with figures of 3-53.

Wadebridge will be champions despite being bowled out for 82 at home to St Blazey.

Rich Atkinson was the only one to get above 20 for the hosts, who struggled to contain the bowling of Henro Bouwer, who finished with 4-15 from 4.5 overs.

South African pro Bouwer then struck an unbeaten 48 in the chase as the visitors won by six wickets.

St Austell IIs leapfrogged Callington IIs into second place as they overcame Lanhydrock by 66 runs at Wheal Eliza.

James Carter hit 78 in the home side’s total of 256 – and then took two wickets, alongside a further four for Ben Carter (4-40) as Lanhydrock could only muster 190 – including 68 from Aussie Sam Remedios - in reply.

Werrington IIs took the spoils from their trip to Callington, who went down by 67 runs.

The visitors batted first and posted 249-8, including knocks from George Rickard (58) and Toby Ward (42).

However, Callington’s chase never got going as Werrington shared the wickets between Jordan Duke (3-35), Jason Seldon (2-32) and Darren Webber (2-45).
