AS a Cornwall councillor, I spend a lot of time following up on concerns about highway and road safety matters.
A couple of years ago, I was able to persuade the unitary authority to carry out an audit of the road between Fraddon and St Columb Road (from Penhale to the roundabout at Halloon).
As a consequence of this, two local interventions have been worked up. These are a safety build-out and associated parking bay at Ridgewell Terrace in Fraddon and modifications to the roundabout at the bottom of Fraddon Hill.
A 21-day consultation is being held on the proposals, which can be found at letstalk.cornwall.gov.uk/hub-page/transport. It closes on October 2.
In relation to this, I am also pushing for potential improvements on St Columb Road crossroads and the approach to St Columb Road railway station. My representations have been linked to the Mid Cornwall Metro project, which is delivering some highway improvements in Bugle and Roche.
Progress is also being made on the transfer of the Hall Road play area from Cornwall Council to St Dennis Parish Council, and a number of small play areas to St Enoder Parish Council. In relation to this, the clerk of St Enoder Parish Council and I have also secured a grant of £6,000 to cover legal costs.
The government has also commenced consideration of its English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill. A House of Commons Committee has been formed and held its first meeting on September16.
The Bill makes no provision for meaningful devolution for Cornwall and I have also been busy at Cornwall Council working with other councillors to lobby those in authority to secure a devolution settlement which reflects the national identity of Cornwall and the national minority status of the Cornish.
