I HOPE everyone is well as we head through the summer season. I want to touch on some of the tremendous positive events we’ve recently had or will be having in my area, amazing community events that are the highlight of the year for people who live in my Mevagissey and St Austell Bay division

In the first week of July, I was delighted to spend time supporting events in Mevagissey Feast Week, which in my view, was a triumphant success!

The sun (mostly) shone, spirits weren’t dented when it did mizzle and our community came together as it always does, for what is the best week of the year.

By the time this is published, I will hopefully already have been along to Sally’s Cat Rescue’s community fun day at Tregrehan Mills, which as of the time of writing will be taking place in the Jubilee Field on July 27. Sally’s Cat Rescue is a tremendous local organisation, and despite the name, we also rescued a dog with their support earlier this year, and I am always happy to recommend them to people wishing to adopt a rescue pet.

And then, looking forward to the last day of July and the first week of August, we have Pentewan’s Village Fete and Charlestown Regatta Week, and then Portmellon Regatta on August 24. I’m absolutely gutted that I won’t be able to help in the beer tent for Charlestown Regatta this year, which has become a bit of an enjoyable annual tradition for me, due to it clashing with family commitments, but I will be there for the first bit and, in particular, I am looking forward to the raft race on the Saturday.

As ever, my thanks to the committees and all who volunteer all year round to make these events and more, so successful and brighten up our communities for locals and visitors alike.
