THE superb surf at Fistral beach in Newquay and the scenic beauty of nearby Pentire Point East are in focus today as the Voice continues its serialisation of the travel book, Cornwall Favourites For One And All!: A Quick Guide To Good Places To Visit Across The County.
Voice journalist Andrew Townsend, the author of the book, says: “Our journeying around Cornwall has so far seen us travelling along the south coast to Land’s End and then visiting coastal spots in the west of the county, including St Ives and Hayle.
“For the latest part of the tour, we are following the extensive northern coast of Cornwall all the way to the Bude area.”
Fistral beach in Newquay is the surfing capital of Cornwall. Surfers travel from far and wide to ride the Fistral waves as part of competitions or just for fun.
The headlands of Pentire Point East and Towan Head help to guide big, ‘clean’ waves towards the shore.

Pentire Point East has a rugged, exposed coastline facing the Atlantic and quieter shores beside the Gannel estuary.
A small seasonal ferry takes foot passengers across the Gannel, with its birdlife, to the sandy Crantock beach when the tide is in, while before and after low tide people can walk across a low footbridge.
To the west of the Crantock beach are the secluded Porth Joke (or Polly Joke) beach and the large beach at Holywell Bay. All three of these beaches are looked after by the National Trust.
