TODAY we are in the Cornish coastal village of Port Isaac, known to millions of television viewers around the world by a different name, as the Voice continues its serialisation of the travel book, Cornwall Favourites For One And All!: A Quick Guide To Good Places To Visit Across The County.
Voice journalist Andrew Townsend, the author of the book, says: “Port Isaac plays a part in my family history. As a child, I was taken to nearby St Endellion Church to see memorial plaques to members of the Trevan family who were on my mother’s family tree.
“Some of the Trevans lived in Port Isaac and, if you look closely, you will see a property or two there bearing their name.”
Port Isaac is a fishing village on the North Cornwall coast, also known as Portwenn in the hit television series, Doc Martin.
Another claim to fame is that the village is where the popular Fisherman’s Friends singing group started.

Pretty cottages line narrow streets in Port Isaac, with one of the narrowest thoroughfares being called Squeeze Belly Alley!
Because of the narrow streets, it is best to park in the car park above the village. From this car park, you can enjoy views of the magnificent coastline in the district.
The coast path east of Port Isaac takes you through Port Gaverne, which also features in Doc Martin, then past some of the remotest cliffs and coves in the county, before eventually coming to Trebarwith Strand, a sandy beach when the tide goes out.

Next time we will be at Tintagel, home to both manmade and natural wonders.
Our lovely tour around the county, taking in well-known spots but also lesser-known locations, offers something for everyone, from brilliant beaches, remote moorland, storm-beaten cliffs and scenic rivers to historic towns, pretty villages, mining heritage sites and visitor attractions.
