The youth club building in Indian Queens Recreation Ground has doubled in size following a project by St Enoder Parish Council.

Parish council representatives met last week with youth workers from Young People Cornwall, who are commissioned by the parish councillors to provide the service, to hand over the key to the improved and enlarged building.

The original building was constructed in 2014, but proved too small for the number of children attending youth club sessions.

Parish clerk Amanda Kendall and Cornwall councillor Dick Cole subsequently submitted a successful application to the unitary authority’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding stream to double its size, securing £60,000 towards overall costs of £74,000.

The enlargement works were carried out by Fraddon builder Nathan Chapman (N&S Builders Ltd).

Parish council chairman Cllr Alan Shaw said: “The youth club building is in one of the most important open spaces in our community. I’m confident it will go from strength to strength, and that other users of the building – such as the youth football teams and the carnival committee - will continue to make good use of it.”

The St Enoder Youth Club meets every Tuesday evening in two sessions: 6pm to 7.30 for Year 5 to 7 school pupils, and 7.30pm to 9pm for Years 8 to Year 11.

All are welcome to come along. Other events and activities in the building will be advertised in the local area and on social media.
