THE anniversary of young boy’s death who inspired the community to raise £188,000 for charity is being remembered.

Joe Way passed away on May 7 in 2008 aged four and in his memory the RNLI, family and friends came together in his memory to raise money, which has grown into the Joe Way Paddle for Life.

Matt Way, Joe’s dad, said: “Living with the loss of Joe is something that never leaves you.

“It’s been a varied and often difficult road, but what has carried us through is the support of the community and the ability to turn that loss into something positive.

“The paddle is about celebrating Joe’s life, not just remembering his passing.

“Each year, the paddle draws people from all walks of life, united by a shared purpose to honour Joe’s memory in a positive and meaningful way.

“The event has raised an incredible amount for charities, supporting causes that make a real difference to individuals and families.

“But the event has become more than a fundraiser.

“It is a celebration of life, connection and hope, bringing together the local community, visitors, and supporters year after year.

“It stands as a testament to what can be achieved when people come together with compassion and purpose.”
