WORK on measures to reduce traffic speeds through the village of Halsetown, near St Ives, and improve pedestrian safety are due to begin tomorrow (Monday, May 12).
The scheme is being funded by the St Ives Low Carbon Transport Strategy which aims to transform travel in and around St Ives, creating a high quality and fully sustainable network of safe and accessible walking, cycling and urban spaces. It is being delivered by Cornwall Council in partnership with the St Ives Town Deal Board.
Specific measures include new sections of footway, additional and refreshed road markings and signage, and Vehicle Activated Speed Signs (VAS) to alert drivers and encourage safer speeds alongside other speed reducing measures.
The scheme is being constructed by Cormac, with traffic lights in use for the majority of the work to enable the team to work safely.
A Cormac spokesperson said: “While we understand the importance of keeping the traffic flowing as well as possible at all times during the construction, we also need to ensure the safety of the teams working on site.”
“We recognise that the works will inevitably cause some temporary disruption to motorists and will be monitoring the traffic closely to ensure traffic flows as smoothly as possible and delays are kept to a minimum.”
The majority of the scheme is due to be completed by the beginning of July, with work on the final stage - the resurfacing of Laity Lane - taking place after the summer season.
Information about the works will be published on the St Ives Low Carbon Transport Strategy page on Let’s Talk Cornwall and the St Ives Town Deal website.
Anyone with queries or concerns about the works at Halsetown is asked to call 0300 1234 222 or email Cormac at [email protected].
