WORK is due to start on building a new £150,000 play park in central Newquay.
Newquay Town Council will be breaking the ground on the facility by the end of the month and anticipate it will be open to the public in the summer.
The play park will include climbing frames, slides, a bug magnifier, an inclusive totem, interactive play panels, a pirate’s lookout, a hammock and a somersault bar.
Outdoor playground manufacturer Wicksteed is the contractor for the project, which is being funded through a £50,000 donation from the Boardmasters Foundation and £100,000 of Community Infrastructure Levy.
A town council spokesperson said: “The proposals have been shaped by feedback received during a public consultation and reflect a shared ambition to enhance this much-loved space for current and future generations.
“The scheme will see the regeneration of an existing community asset, transforming Mount Wise Gardens into a more vibrant, welcoming and accessible environment.
"Central to the plans is the creation of an exciting new play park that is inclusive, engaging and meaningful for people of all ages and abilities.
“The wider improvements will encourage outdoor activity, social interaction and greater use of the gardens by residents and visitors alike, helping to support health, wellbeing and community cohesion.”
Dan Watkin, the director of operations at Newquay Town Council, said: “We are eager to get started and to deliver on our corporate plan commitment to enhance community services within the town.
“This project represents a significant investment in our public spaces and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to listening to the community and responding with positive, practical action.
“We anticipate that this new facility will be available for residents and visitors to enjoy later this summer, and we look forward to seeing Mount Wise Gardens thrive as a renewed focal point for the community.”
