NEW artist’s impressions have been released to show what upcoming improvements to Truro's quayside could look like.

The images illustrate a range of enhancements to Garras Wharf, Town Quay and Lemon Quay subway, which have been designed to strengthen connections between the city centre and Truro River as well as to create attractive, welcoming spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Funded by the government’s Town Deal programme, the proposals include new landscaping and tree planting, improved public spaces, enhanced cycle parking, upgraded surfacing, new seating areas and better access routes between Lemon Quay, Town Quay and the wider harbour area.

It follows enhancement work to Lemon Quay, due to be completed this month, the removal of the derelict Compton Castle paddle steamer last year, and ongoing dredging at Town Quay.

Truro harbourmaster Chris Jones said: “These visualisations bring to life the work that is unfolding to improve Truro's waterfront and public spaces over the coming months, off the back of the improvements already delivered.

“The dredging campaign is proving successful so far and will open up access for a wider range of vessels to use our quays, which will then receive an attractive welcome to the city from our harbour.”

At Town Quay, new steps will strengthen pedestrian routes from Morlaix Avenue and Lemon Quay, while a new public area will offer improved river views of the river and historic harbour alongside landscaping designed to enhance biodiversity and provide shelter. At Lemon Quay subway, works include widening the subway entrance, improving accessibility and lighting, and introducing new planting, seating and landscaping to create a more inviting environment and better links to the river.

Meanwhile, improvements at Garras Wharf would deliver new landscaping and enhanced cycle parking facilities to encourage sustainable travel and improve the approach into Truro harbour.

Truro Town Deal chairman Alan Stanhope said: “These works represent a significant investment in Truro's future and put into action our ambition to create a thriving, vibrant and connected city.

“The improvements will help people engage more closely with our historic harbour and river while delivering high-quality public spaces that benefit the whole community.”

Truro Town Deal Board, in partnership with Cornwall Council, successfully bid for a Town Deal worth £23.6 million to support a range of projects that will contribute to the city’s regeneration and boost the local economy. Cornwall Council is the lead authority for Cornwall Town Deals and supports the governance role of the Truro Town Deal Board and administrates the fund.
