A fisherman landed something he was not expecting whilst out on his boat in Falmouth Bay.

Will Eastham from Falmouth helped guide a young Roe deer back to land after spotting the animal swimming in the sea on his way back to Helford.

He said: “I was coming back into Helford from way out when I saw something odd in the bay, and it turned out to be a young Roe deer doe.

“She was swimming about and looking a bit lost.

“I managed to guide her back safely in towards the headland, where she chambered up.

“Deer will swim happily across rivers and estuaries, but I’ve not seen one out in the sea before.”
