A singing tradition stretching back nearly 400 years in Bodmin to bring good health and good cheer to the town for the year ahead has certainly paid dividends.
A group of local men who got dressed up in top hats and tails to take part in the 399th Bodmin Wassail to mark Twelfth Night have raised £565 for charity.
The Bodmin Wassailers have donated the money to the local charity, Ourgate, which was set up by the Rev Elaine Munday to help those locally struggling to make ends meet during the cost of living crisis.
The group sang wassailing songs at various locations during the fundraiser including at Bodmin Town Council offices, residential homes, local businesses and public houses, and they called at people’s homes.
A spokesman for the Bodmin Wassail said: “We would like to thank everyone that supported this year’s wassail.
“Their kind donations raised £565 and this money will be used to help the local community that are struggling in these difficult times through our chosen charity Ourgate.”
