RESIDENTS in a Clay Country village marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day with bellringing, music, readings and the lighting of a beacon.

Events in the village were organised by the parish council and began with the ringing of the church bells.

The St Dennis Band then gave a short concert in the car park of the War Memorial Institute.

Activities moved inside the Working Men’s Social Club, where following readings, the Imerys Mid Cornwall Male Choir performed songs reflecting VE Day. The choir was joined by scholars from Truro Cathedral, Steff Good and her mother, and the Clay Country Wailers.

The final events were held outside with the Rev Chris McQuillen-Wright leading a short service and a beacon being lit.
