Young people living in and around Truro are invited to give their views on designs for a new skatepark being developed for the new Langarth Garden Village.

Cornwall Council has been working with CORMAC and the Langarth Garden Village team on detailed plans for a skatepark as part of the reserved matters application for parks and green spaces.

Renowned skatepark engineers Maverick, who are responsible for designing and building skateparks in Newquay and St Ives, have been commissioned to develop the Langarth skatepark and are asking local riders for feedback on the designs and help to shape the construction to suit the needs of the local area.

Young people are invited to visit Maverick’s website, where they can concept ideas for the skatepark, which includes three main areas: a combi bowl, raised street area and flowtrack.

Maverick are also keen to receive feedback on the draft designs via a short online survey, in which contributors will be asked to explain what’s important to them in a skatepark.

The skatepark is one of a raft of facilities planned for Langarth, as well as children’s play areas, green gyms, timber walkways and boardwalks, community allotments, a community orchard and sustainable drainage features including lakes and rain gardens.

Sarah Treliving from the Langarth project team said: “The skatepark will be one of the first new community facilities provided in the Garden Village, and we want to make sure young people have the opportunity to help shape the design.

“At the end of last year, we invited pupils at Threemilestone Primary School to come up with designs for the skatepark and other play areas at Langarth. They had some amazing suggestions which we fed back to the teams working on the project.

“We now want to hear from other young people living in and around Truro on the features they would like to see included in the final design for the skatepark.”

If permission is granted for the reserved matters application, work on delivering the space in the first phase will begin towards the middle of this year, with the skatepark currently due to be constructed by the end of 2025.

The deadline for completing the survey is Friday, February 9 at www.maverickskateparks.co.uk/langarth
