A civic parade took place in Newquay on Sunday to welcome councillor Margaret North as the returning mayor.

Town councillors as well as representatives from the various organisations in the town joined the parade from Fore Street car park through the town centre.

The parade was led by the Kernow Pipers and included representatives from Newquay Lions, Newquay Towan Blystra Lions, Piran’s Angels, Newquay WI and Rialton Residents' Association.

Wing Commander Marshall Kinnear who commands RAF St Mawgan was also in attendance.

A civic service was held in St Micheal’s Church was held after the parade, which was followed by a reception at the Killacourt.

Mayor North said: “It is very important the town continues this tradition.

“The town council is elected by residents and it is important to be able to see them swear alleliance for the role they are taking. It is a time to celebrate.”

Deputy Mayor Drew Creek added: “It is lovely to stand alongside Margaret because she is a great Mayor.”

Wg Cdr Kinnear said: “RAF St Mawgan has close ties with Newquay. It is one of our strongest links in Cornwall alongside St Columb Major.”
