A HAVEN for the discerning drinker in Newquay has set the bar high for hospitality after the venue received a prestigious award.
Tom Thumb in East Street was officially recognised by the Pinnacle Guide, earning a coveted one star award for excellence.
The significant achievement places the venue among the UK’s leading bars.
The Pinnacle Guide, often described as the Michelin Guide of the drinks world, celebrates outstanding bars for their quality, consistency, sustainability, and service. Achieving a star involves a rigorous process, including mystery reviews and a detailed assessment of each venue’s ethos and operational excellence.
Owner Jamie Garfield, who has worked in hospitality for more than 25 years, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to receive a Pinnacle Guide Star. It’s a reflection of our team’s dedication to quality, creativity, and the customer experience. From day one, our ethos has centred on exceptional service, sustainability, and serving drinks we’re truly proud of.”
Founded in 2016, Tom Thumb began as a vision inspired by international travels and a desire to bring something unique to Newquay’s nightlife. Since becoming sole owner in 2020, Jamie evolved the bar into one of Cornwall’s most respected cocktail destinations, specialising in craft cocktails, house-made ingredients, and sustainable practices.
At Tom Thumb, everything from the syrups and infusions to the ice is crafted in-house. The team uses innovative culinary techniques such as fermentation, clarification, and self-carbonation, creating drinks that are both inventive and environmentally conscious. This commitment also earned the venue recognition as one of the top three most sustainable bars in the UK by top 50 cocktail bars.
Beyond cocktails, Tom Thumb plays an active role in the Newquay community, proudly supporting Safe Space Newquay, PubWatch, and the Cornwall Hospitality Collective, as well as partnering with local charities like the RNLI.
“We see ourselves as part of the community, not just a business in it,” Jamie added. “This recognition isn’t just for us — it’s for Newquay’s growing, diverse, and vibrant hospitality scene.”
