A charity variety concert at St John’s Methodist Church in St Austell this month raised £1,800 for Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF).
An audience of around 250 were entertained by eight acts, including the Imerys Singers ladies’ choir, acoustic duo Geoff & Michaela, Carclaze Voices and St Mewan Community Choir. Jimmy Cannon performed classic folk songs, St Mewan School Choir sang Hallelujah, and NoteAbility delivered an audience-pleasing rendition of Sweet Caroline.
While previous concerts have raised money for those suffering from disasters such as earthquakes and floods, the proceeds from this one will help those in need in Cornwall. CCF development director Tamara Sherston-Baker gave a short talk about the work of the foundation, which awards small grants to grass-roots, volunteer-led organisations helping to overcome the challenges of disadvantage, exclusion and poverty for all ages.
The musical extravaganza was completed by three numbers from Mevagissey Male Choir. Ten hampers, each worth around £50 and containing items such as chocolates, wine and toiletries, were raffled off to great interest.
