A Truro lawyer has been appointed as a trustee by a charity which is set to expand its support for people living with brain injuries across Cornwall.
Personal injury specialist Eleanor Armstrong, who is based at Enable Law’s Coinage House office, on Princes Street, will bolster independent Headway Cornwall charity with her legal expertise.
The Enable Law legal director's appointment to Headway Cornwall’s board of trustees comes at a time when charity officials are planning to strengthen its presence across the eastern area of Cornwall.
The experienced solicitor says she is relishing the opportunity to help Headway Cornwall meet the needs of the 4,000 people across the county who are diagnosed with acquired brain injuries each year.
Eleanor said: “It is a genuine honour to have been invited to become a Headway Cornwall trustee because it is a highly respected charity which provides vital support people who are living with brain injuries and their loved ones.
“I know from speaking to Enable Law clients that they really benefit from the services Headway staff provide including physical and cognitive rehabilitation, social activities and emotional support.
“And I’m looking forward to using my legal experience to help those people who rely on Headway Cornwall and will do everything I can to help the charity build on its proud history and go from strength to strength to make sure individuals secure the legal help they deserve.”
Headway Cornwall offers a range of services to people who are living with acquired or traumatic brain injuries. These can be due to medical reasons such as heart attacks, tumours and strokes but also accidents, falls and assaults.
A day service run by Headway Cornall every Tuesday at Redruth Rugby Club aims to help increase self-esteem, self-confidence, overall well-being, combating stress and isolation while also boosting physical rehabilitation.
People who head to the rugby club sessions are encouraged to try out new hobbies and learn new skills, but Headway Cornwall also provide telephone and online support, information and advice as well as home and hospital visits.
Headway Cornwall administrator Richard Monk said: “We are all delighted that Eleanor has joined our board of trustees because she has the experience and enthusiasm to have a positive impact.
“Making life better for Cornish people with acquired brain injuries drives us on at Headway Cornwall and with Eleanor’s help we will be able to rise to any challenge both for the charity as a whole and for those people who depend on us.
“Eleanor’s appointment underlines just how ambitious at a time when charities like Headway Cornwall are increasingly important to Cornish people as we offer them a lifeline and re-assurance that there is life after brain injury.”
Suffering a brain injury is a life-altering event, not just for the person directly affected, but for their entire support system, impacting health, employment, personal relationships and the ability to live independently.
Enable Law solicitors work closely with Headway, both nationally and with local groups such as Headway Somerset, Headway Bristol, Headway Devon and Headway Herefordshire.
Enable Law has developed strong relationships with associated charity partners as specialists on brain injury compensation cases, including the Child Brain Injury Trust, as their chosen legal support service provider for the South West.
