TRURO City created Cornish sporting history on Saturday, April 26, when they became the first side from the Duchy to reach Step Five of the English football pyramid, and today they celebrate their remarkable achievement.

The Truro City bus will parade through the streets with supporters cheering them on.

The schedule is as follows:

1.30pm - Open-top bus leaves the Truro City Stadium

1.50pm - Arrives in High Cross, next to Truro Cathedral

2.00pm - Trophy and medal presentation outside Truro Cathedral

3.00pm - Open-top bus leaves High Cross, returning to the Truro City Stadium, after taking a tour around the city - Boscawen Street and then back towards the ground through Threemilestone.

The Tinners went into a dramatic final day of the National League South campaign as one of six sides in with a shout of securing the sole automatic promotion slot, although they knew that despite a goal difference of two better than Devon side Torquay United, a victory against visiting St Albans City, who were already relegated, may not be enough.

But three goals inside the opening ten minutes from Luke Jephcott, Dominic Johnson-Fisher and Tyler Harvey gave them a cushion they could only dream about.

While nerves became shredded late in the second half when they conceded to make it 4-2 and Torquay were racking up the goals in a 4-1 success at Hemel Hempstead Town, Cornishman Andrew Neal score again as they ran out 5-2 winners to secure their seat at the pinnacle of Non-League football.

What makes the story so remarkable is that just over 12 months ago, Truro were battling relegation, were without a home ground and being forced to finish the season playing more than 200 miles away at Gloucester City.

To add to that, boss Paul Wotton left to take the Torquay job over the summer, but since serial promotion winner John Askey has come in, the Tinners have soared.

Utilising several of last year’s squad with key additions in the likes of goalkeeper Dan Lavercombe, defender Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain and striker Jaze Kabia, Askey’s men have surpassed expectations and overcome an incredible amount of travelling to do the unthinkable as they amassed 89 points from their 46 games, losing just nine in the process.

Today the city and their passionate fanbase will pay homage to their heroes as we hear from some of the key figures.
