THE Truro office of Bishop Fleming has raised more than £4,000 for Cornwall Hospice Care, just a year after launching its flagship ‘1 per cent for Communities’ initiative.

Through the initiative, which pledges to give back the equivalent of one per cent of the firm’s turnover through impactful, community-focused volunteering, fundraising and related activities, Bishop Fleming has partnered with the Cornish healthcare charity to organise joint fundraising activities throughout the year.

Cornwall Hospice Care provides end of life support for people with terminal illnesses. The clinical staff and volunteers care for patients and their families, carers and friends at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice in St Austell, St Julia’s Hospice in Hayle, through its community services and where appropriate, in people’s own homes and in local care homes.

In addition to volunteering at the charity, Bishop Fleming’s fundraising initiatives included a speed quiz evening, netball tournament, cake bake sale, and Eden Zip Wire.

The funds raised will directly support Cornwall Hospice Care’s efforts to offer free, in-patient care for those with life-limiting illnesses and support for their families and carers.

Erica Vitai, relationships Partner at Cornwall Hospice Care, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Bishop Fleming for the amazing support given to Cornwall Hospice Care over the past year. The team have got really stuck into our partnership and it’s been a brilliant collaboration.

“As well as raising funds for our hospices and raising awareness of our impact, they’ve gone above and beyond by volunteering time at our donation centre and at our events. Their support is helping us make everyday matter for our patients and their loved ones, through our two hospices and through our work in the community.”

Launched in July 2024, the 1 per cent for Communities commitment aims to support local residents, foster employee engagement, and contribute to meaningful causes, while underpinning the firm’s ambition to be the most rewarding accountancy firm in the UK for its clients, people, and communities.

Driven by the initiative, Bishop Fleming contributed 1,889 volunteer hours and raised over £70,000 in funds across its offices in the South West and Midlands, reaching a total community contribution of £514,325 through fundraising, volunteering, and support for charitable causes.

Ally Allington, partner at Bishop Fleming, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have raised such a fantastic amount for Cornwall Hospice Care. It’s been a real pleasure working alongside their dedicated team, and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed supporting the incredible work they do. We’re very much looking forward to continuing our partnership over the next 12 months.”

Looking ahead, the 1 per cent for Communities programme is set to expand further, with an ambitious new fundraising target of £100,000 across Bishop Fleming’s offices, and the Truro office will be continuing its longstanding partnership with Cornwall Hospice Care as part of the important initiative.
