POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a car crashed into a level crossing in west Cornwall.
Officers were called to reports of the incident at Gwinear Road, near Connor Downs, at around 11.30pm on Monday, October 12.
The car, a red Skoda Fabia, left the scene and as a result of the collision, debris was spread onto the tracks. A passing train struck some of the debris and came to a safe stop at the location.
Six passengers were on board the train at the time and were required to evacuate. None of the passengers or the train driver were injured.
The driver of the car, a local man in his 20s, also did not sustain any injuries.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “He was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug about the specified limit. He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
“The level crossing is the main railway line that runs from Penzance to Paddington and currently remains closed due to the damage caused to the infrastructure. Diversions are in place.
“Officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have relevant information. Anyone with dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone footage that could assist the investigation is also asked to come forward.
“Please contact police on 101 or via our website, quoting log 882 12/10/26.”
