This weekend sees the return of the Bodmin Carnival for the first time since 2019.
Organisers are hoping that the event can retake its place in the annual town social calendar and are calling on the town’s residents and visitors to ‘make it our biggest and best yet’.
The evening procession will be led by Bodmin Town Band with participation from Roche town band and Kernow pipes and drums.
Fifteen classes are available for people to enter into with the aim of winning over the judges.
Entries for the categories will be asked to assemble at Fair Park at 4.30pm for registration, with judging taking place at around 5.45pm, an hour before the procession will take the carnival across the town centre, ending at Priory Car Park for refreshments and merriment.
A spokesperson for Bodmin Carnival said: “Bodmin hasn’t had a Carnival since 2019 so we are delighted to see it return this year. We would love to see Bodmin Carnival reinstated as an annual event in our calendars.
“This year we are pleased to announce that our very own Bodmin Town Band will lead the procession, we are also very fortunate to have Roche Town Band and Kernow Pipes and Drums taking part in the procession.
“Entries can begin assembling at Fair Park from 4.30pm for registration.
“Judging will commence at 5.45pm. The possession will set off at 6:45pm and follow the route through Higher Bore Street to the town centre and into Priory car park. We will end in the long stay car park where refreshments will be available.
“Cups and trophies have been generously donated by local businesses for our first-place winners in each class.
“There are also rosettes for second and third place and certificates for all entries. Entry forms can be picked up at Bodmin Town Council Reception Shire Hall and completed entry forms can also be dropped off there.
“Alternatively, we can email one to you on request.
“We’re looking for some imaginative, topical, humorous, or downright whacky entries… you never know you might win the first prize! And we encourage lots of fancy dress for that Carnival atmosphere.”
Volunteers are also needed to help on the day so if anyone would like to get involved and help, email at [email protected]
