TRURO Cathedral will host its second Luxmuralis light and sound show from Monday, January 12 to Saturday, January 17.
“Time” allows visitors to journey through a series of captivating installations that portray humans as seen through different eras, exploring humanity's relationship with the concept of time, the fascinating theories of relativity, and the text of HG Wells' novella The Time Machine.
Described as the “stained glass windows of our time”, the immersive projected artworks will completely engulf the cathedral and takes place between. Eventgoers will traverse wormholes, venture inside the intricate workings of clocks and experience a dramatic narrative that spans from the present day back to the very beginning of everything.
Luxmuralis is the artistic collaboration between sculptor Peter Walker and composer David Harper, who specialise in immersive fine art, light and sound installations around the UK and abroad. The pair visited Truro Cathedral for the first time last year with “Space”.
Sean O’Neill, Truro Cathedral’s chief operating officer, said: “After the success of Luxmuralis last year, I’m excited to see this next show bring the cathedral to life in January. Transforming this amazing space with light and sound for all to see, feel and immerse themselves in.”
Luxmuralis visitor slots are ticketed and timed at 20-minute intervals. Tickets cost £10.50 for adults and £8 for children aged five and over. A family ticket (two adults and up to five children) costs £26. Under-fives and registered carers go free.
The full light show takes about 45 minutes to complete, but visitors are welcome to stay and immerse themselves for as long as they like once they’ve entered the cathedral at their designated time slot. It is anticipated that the Luxmuralis visit will take about an hour.
