There’s no central list of schools in Cornwall being affected by the first day of strike action by teachers tomorrow (February 1).

Cornwall Council has said it’s not the same as when bad weather forces school closures, which are detailed by the council to parents.

The local authority said it’s up to individual schools to manage.

Many schools have found it difficult to make plans as striking staff are not obliged to let schools know of their individual plans in advance.

But some schools have been writing to parents to let them know of plans.

Penrice Academy and Poltair School in St Austell and Penair School in Truro have said they are opening to Year 11 students only. Redruth School and Saltash Community College will remain open for pupils in Year 11 and vulnerable children.

Liskeard School has told parents the school will close for most students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10, but remain open for students in Years 11, 12 and 13.

Newquay Tretherras and Camborne Science and International Academy are both planning to open for Years 11 and 13 - in which students are preparing for exams - only.

The National Education Union has announced seven strike days in February and March in a dispute over pay and conditions.

Further action affecting Cornwall is planned on March 2, 15 and 16.
