A MAN was rescued after experiencing a medical episode whilst swimming at a Newquay beach on Tuesday.

Two clothed lifeguards ran into the sea at Towan Beach and pulled him out with the assistance of a surf coach at about 3.50pm

Cornwall Air Ambulance, Newquay Coastguard Search and Rescue Team, RNLI lifeguards and the ambulance service attended the incident. The man was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

Many people in the area watched the incident unfold.

Members of Newquay Coastguard Search and Rescue Team cleared an area on the beach for the Cornwall Air Ambulance to land.

Lewis Timson, the lead lifeguard supervisor for Newquay, said: “CPR was not required but he did receive medical treatment and left in the land ambulance.”

A spokesperson for Newquay Coastguard said: “We were tasked to assist with the incident.

“One casualty was treated at the scene and then transferred to hospital for further treatment. We wish them a swift recovery.”

An eyewitness said: “It is such a relief to hear the man from Towan beach is making a recovery. It was very scary to see it unfold in front of us, but the lifeguard team were incredible.”
