LONGSTANDING plans to install a £100,000 surf sculpture in Newquay are taking shape.
Work has begun on installing the supporting structure for the 16-foot-high Surfer of the South bronze statue at the Killacourt.
The final stage will be attaching the surf sculpture.
A town council spokesperson said: “This stage of the installation is now progressing steadily as the foundations for the sculpture are prepared.”
The piece has been donated to the town by The Keogh Foundation, recognising more than 60 years of Newquay’s surfing heritage.
The statue has been named Surfer of the South in the hope it will receive same sort of exposure the Angel of the North sculpture in Gateshead.
The sculpture has been made by the Morris Singer Foundry where Barbara Hepworth cast her bronzes.
