The bells of St Ladoca's Church in Ladock made a symbolic tour on Sunday, July 6, before heading to specialists for some TLC.
The grade I listed church has been unable to ring a full peal since last year. Following inspection, it was decided that bells 1, 2, 7 and 8 should be retuned, bells 3 to 6 melted down and recast, and the wooden belfry frame replaced with a heavy-duty cast-iron alternative.
The bells were driven in tractor convoy through neighbouring villages and across Sett Bridge, over the River Fal, before spending the night in the care of Smallridge Bros in Blackwater and being transported by articulated lorry to Taylors of Loughborough. It’s hoped the bells will return in time to be rung for Christmas.
