A St Ives art gallery is launching its brand-new independent publishing imprint, which will spotlight the most exciting, dynamic and boundary-pushing artists working in Cornwall today.
Livingstone St Ives LSI Books will bring an insider’s guide to St Ives’ vibrant arts scene to a national and international audience.
They will feature high-quality images, thoughtful analysis and unprecedented personal interviews,
The imprint will launch with the publication of Jack Davis: Force of Nature on April 11, which will be a full-colour, limited edition hardback charting the phenomenal rise of powerful emerging artist Jack Davis.
Jack Davis is one of Cornwall’s most beloved and highly collected landscape artists; his complex, bold and passionate semi-abstracted seascapes and skyscapes instantly recognisable to lovers of the Cornish coastline.
Represented by Livingstone St Ives since 2020, his work now hangs in collections all over the world.
Jack Davis: Force of Nature is an almanac of some of Jack’s most notable pieces to date, from the delicately luminous masterpiece As the Tide Turns and the iconic Storm Approaching Zennor to his vast diptychs Symphony and Requiem, creating during Jack’s residency at the historic Porthmeor Studio 5.
Alongside these images, the book features Jack’s own words describing the process of creating his paintings, analysis of Jack’s oeuvre from gallery director Alicia Livingstone, and a foreword from art historian and Programme Director at Sotheby’s Institute of Art David Bellingham.
Director and curator Alicia Livingstone said: “Jack’s paintings are both technically accomplished and wildly emotive, with a dynamism and energy that is transportive for the viewer.
"Executing such moody, hypnotic beauty, it’s not hard to see why Jack has established himself at the forefront of Cornish landscape painting.”
Jack Davis: Force of Nature will be produced in a limited run of 500 first editions, each hand-signed by the artist.
