A seven-year-old girl from Parc Eglos School has drawn lucky in annual festive art competition run by a holiday letting agency.

Florence Whitehouse won Cornish Cottage Holidays’ competition to design their company’s 2023 Christmas card. Her design incorporated lights and decorations, as well as the Cornish flag and a smiling pasty.

Children were asked to design something that not only celebrates Christmas, but also acts as a reminder of region’s beauty and uniqueness.

After much deliberation by the judge, Florence’s creation took the top prize. She won herself art supplies worth £50 and a bundle of Christmas cards in her own design to share with friends and family, plus her school has received £200 for its art department.

Phil Pascoe, operations manager at Redruth-based Cornish Cottage Holidays said: “It was fabulous to see the children’s artwork. We always love this time of year, where we get to see the work of the many talented children here in Cornwall.

"A massive thank you to every child that entered – you all worked incredibly hard, and you should be very proud of yourselves.”

The judge of the competition, landscape artist Lucy Gunning, who grew up in the region and has a true love of the county, said: “It was such an honour to be asked to judge this competition, I was thrilled to be involved.

"I have really enjoyed admiring all the entries, and it was fun seeing how the children responded to the brief. The originality of the designs was incredible. Well done to everyone that took part, and congratulations to the worthy winner, Florence.”
