Residents are being asked for their views on plans to make the area outside a Newquay school safer.

Cornwall Council has launched a public consultation to improve the layout opposite Bishops School, including installing a new school crossing point.

The authority also plans to install a raised table, which is intended to slow traffic speeds and improve pedestrian safety, amend the kerb line and widen the carriageway, replace the existing signpost with a new street light in the same location and create a new pedestrian refuge with tactile paving.

Trenance Cornwall councillor Olly Monk said:  “The consultation for the scheme for improving the layout opposite the Bishops School is now open.

“Following the consultation, the work will be scheduled in for the new year.  Thanks to all who have taken part in getting this scheme to this point.

“This is part of the work on Treloggan Road to reduce traffic speed and safety.

“A speed awareness camera is due to be installed near the Junction of Wheatfield Crescent in addition to the new crossing at the Dale Road Junction.”

Elsewhere, Cormac Solution, on behalf of Cornwall Council, has launched a public consultation on proposals to implement parking restrictions in the Newquay and St Columb Community Network area.

The proposals have been nominated by town and parish councils or councillors with support from the highway manager.

Various waiting restrictions have been proposed to prevent obstructive parking on Treforda Road and Mellanvrane Lane, Porth Bean Road, Chester Road, Riverside Crescent, Whipsiderry (B3276), Tolcarne Road and in the vicinity of the church at St Mawgan.  A limited waiting bay has also been proposed at St Mawgan church for use by patrons.

Amendments to the extents of the existing limited waiting bays and their waiting times have been proposed on Tolcarne Road, Albany Road, and Edgcumbe Avenue.

These alterations aim to maximise the amount of available parking and align the times with the needs of local residents.

No waiting at any time restrictions are proposed at the junction with Hilgrove Road and various sections throughout Chester Road.

At Porth Bean Road no waiting at any time restrictions at the junction with Lewarne Road are proposed.

An extension of the existing no waiting at any time restriction is planned at Riverside Crescent.

At St Mawgan, no waiting at any time restrictions in the vicinity of Penpont bridge, and leading southeast towards the Falcon Inn, are on the agenda.

A bus stop clearway opposite the Falcon Inn and a limited waiting bay adjacent to the Lych Gate are proposed.

And no waiting at any time restrictions at the junctions with Treninnick Hill and Mellanvrane Lane are suggested.

Further no waiting at any time restrictions are proposed at Mellanvrane Lanes junctions with Chichester Crescent and Trevemper Road.

The parking restriction plans for Whipsiderry involve introducing no waiting at any time restrictions on Watergate Road between Coastline Court and Trevelgue Road, including the access road to Coastline Court and Kenton Hotel. Here, plans have come in for criticism.
