A Newquay school has closed today (Tuesday) after it was deemed to be unsafe.
Treviglas Academy has shut after refurbishment works impacted the fire and alarm system, which meant the school could not guarantee everyone could be evacuated safely during an emergency.
Head teacher Michelle Dunleavy said: "I am informing all parents and carers that we have had to make the difficult decision to close Treviglas Academy on Tuesday, March 28.
"It has become apparent that the reconditioning works taking place at the school have seriously impacted on the fire detection and alarm system.
"Due to the extent of the issue across our large site, it would be unsafe to open as we cannot guarantee detection or a communication system that would evacuate everyone safely. "At the moment we are hoping to only close for one day.
"However, there is the potential that the situation may not be resolved in one day and we will keep parents updated as soon as we are informed about the progress of the rapid repairs that will be put in place. "I am so sorry for the inconvenience that this will cause our families and for the impact this will have on your child's learning.
"Work will be set on Satchel One throughout the day and we encourage all our students to complete it. "Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
"I want to apologise once again that this issue has occurred."
