A member of the Royal British Legion (RBL) was found dead inside the St Austell branch of the club yesterday.

In a Facebook post, the RBL St Austell said: “After a devastating day, we need to inform you all that we lost one of our members today.”

The victim has yet to be named, and the club is closed today (Friday) as a mark of respect.

The post continued: “Please respect the staff, as it has been a traumatic time for them.”

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Emergency services were called at 7pm last night to a property on Duke Street, St Austell following report of concern for the welfare of a man. A man in his 40s was confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be submitted to the coroner.”
