RNLI lifeguards saved the life of a swimmer who suffered a suspected medical episode at Fistral Beach on Saturday afternoon.

The lifeguards were patrolling the red and yellow flags when they noticed a woman unconscious in the water at 1.20pm.

The two lifeguards immediately entered the sea while fully clothed and pulled the woman from the water before providing emergency medical attention.

The charity’s lifeguards called 999 and paramedics were on the scene within 10 minutes. The woman was transported to the beach car park via a lifeguard vehicle and handed over, into the care of paramedics.

Lead lifeguard supervisor for Newquay, Lewis Timson, stated the incident highlights the importance of visiting a beach that is patrolled by lifeguards.

Mr Timson said: “I couldn’t be prouder of the way that the lifeguards reacted quickly and ran into the water fully clothed to help get the casualty out of the water.

“Their quick-thinking has helped to save a life, and it really highlights the importance of visiting a beach with lifeguards who are on hand to deal with any emergencies that may occur.”

RNLI lifeguards will be on Fistral beach every day between 10am and 6pm until November 2.
