RELATIVES of a teenage boy from St Austell who has died only a short while after being diagnosed with leukaemia are raising money to help his family at this difficult time.

Fourteen-year-old Morgan Kelly, who was a pupil at Poltair School, died just two weeks after it was discovered he had cancer.

His health deteriorated rapidly and he was transferred from hospital to the Little Harbour children’s hospice at St Austell where he passed away.

Morgan’s cousin Jessica Kelly, from St Austell, is running a GoFundMe fundraiser - https://www.gofundme.com/f/uvzkz-morgan-kelly - with a target of £2,600 to help the family.

Jessica said: “I’m trying to make this time a little easier for my Auntie Anna and her partner Mike.

“This has happened so very fast. There was no build-up, nothing to indicate that Morgan was really poorly until June 3.

“After being taken to Treliske Hospital, Morgan had blood tests and it was discovered he had leukaemia. Hospital staff then sedated him for a brain scan and found a bleed on the brain.”

Morgan was taken to Bristol Children’s Hospital, where he had an operation to try to lower the pressure in his brain.

Doctors told Morgan’s family that his brain was badly damaged and that as a consequence he would suffer repeated seizures.

Jessica said: “They had to put him on more seizure medication which meant Morgan would never be awake and would have no quality of life.

“The family decided there was no other choice but to bring Morgan home to Little Harbour and let him pass in peace.

“Morgan passed away on Tuesday, June 17, in the arms of his Mum and Mike. My beautiful baby cousin was only 14 and had his whole life ahead of him.”

Donations will go towards giving Morgan a good send-off and to providing a lasting memorial.
