Residents are being given an opportunity to have their say on major plans to create a new £80million holiday park on the outskirts of Newquay during a public consultation on Wednesday, December 21.

The plan involves constructing up to 800 holiday units on 67.1 hectares of undeveloped land at Colan.

The scheme will include lodges, fixed units and static caravans, and a 2,000 square metre pool complex including a water play zone, a large swimming area and a toddler water confidence zone.

The plans also include a bar, restaurant, pizza deck and tea house plus a multi-purpose venue to provide daytime wet weather activities and evening entertainment.

Outdoor play zones for all ages, ropeworks, adventure golf and a picnic meadow are proposed.

A solar farm would help meet the development’s energy requirements.

A footpath link would connect the site to Quintrell Downs and the railway station.

Residents have already expressed fears Quintrell Downs would not be able to cope with the amount of traffic that would be generated.

They believe traffic chaos in the area during the summer months will be exacerbated.

Residents are also concerned the holiday park’s proposed entrance would cause accidents.

They are worried the area’s infrastructure, including its doctors, dentists and hospital would come under extreme pressure.

Kingsley Developments (SW) Limited and Time GB Group Limited (trading as Royale Resorts), are behind the plans.

They have submitted a screening opinion for the scheme, on the northern side of the A392.

The public consultation will be staged at Quintrell Downs Village Hall between 4pm and 7pm.

John Marshall of Kingsley Developments said: “At this early stage we do not have a fully worked-up scheme but you will be able to see the broad outline of what is proposed.

“The purpose of the meeting is seek people’s input, views and comments which we will consider as we progress to the more detailed proposal stage which will again be subject to further meetings and consultations before any scheme is submitted.

“We value people’s input so please take this opportunity to come along.”
